About Us

What We Do

We are one of the very few research groups in India interested in understanding the mysteries of neuronal function at the level of single ion channel molecules in the membrane, to individual neurons in culture and brain slice, and neuronal networks. The electrophysiological technique of patch-clamp combined with Ca imaging and multi-electrode array recordings are used in the studies. The group has pioneered the setting up of the patch clamp technique, combined electrophysiology and Ca imaging, and multi-electrode array recording in India and has trained several PhD students. The research interests are diverse and revolve around the strengths of the students that join the laboratory. The laboratory has grown over the years in the kinds of questions that are asked using advanced techniques. The commitment and involvement of the PhD students have been invaluable in the growth of the laboratory over the years.
